Since I mentioned Grandma in the post below.....I thought I would publish her picture. Her full name was Larsena Christina Thorstensen Williams.....everyone called her "Sena". She was born in the United States to Danish immagrants who had migrated seperatly to Utah and then met and married. She only spoke Danish for the first 8 years of her life. Great Grandpa Thorstensen had two wives..as was the practice in those days...when polygamy was outlawed, Great Grandpa Thorstensen took the wife with the most children (that was not Sena's mother) and moved to Arizona. They came by wagon down to Lee's Ferry, and it is my understanding that he spent a winter there as the blacksmith before continuing on to the Safford area of Arizona. Some very unfotunate circumstances happened to our Sena....she was the only child of her mother's that survived as a child....either disease or accidents claimed the lives of the other children. Then in her eigth year, her mother died. Her father had moved to Arizona....so here was this "little" girl, who as an adult was only about 5 feet tall...so she was a very little girl....all alone in Utah. It was deemed best that she would move to Arizona. So not speaking any English, Sena was placed on a train to go as far south as the track allowed and then she was placed on a stage coach to finish the remainder of the journey. She only had a tag with her name and destination written on it pinned to her dress and then she was placed on the train with her little valise, clutching her doll with the painted china head. What a long journey that must have been! Safford is in the south eastern part of Arizona and she was traveling all the way from Huntsville, Utah. Her courage amazes me. What a feat that was to board the train and start a trip all by herself. She made it safely to Safford, Arizona, where she was met at the stage stop by her father. She had a half sister named Kate who was near her age. Kate took her under her wing, at home, at school and in the community. She taught her English and remained one of her best friends throughout her life. Grandma Sena Williams passed away at the age of 89 in 1968. She and her husband,Grandpa William Walter Williams, had eight children and were sweethearts all their lives.....I have many good memories of them....I can only hope that her courage and fortitude will be passed on to myself, my children, and grandchildren.

I got a bit confused...
Was Sena's Mother the one that had 'less children' and was left behind in Utah, and then when she was the only survivor, she was taken to Arizona?
I think that last part you put she arrived in Utah...
Very neat story, and wow, would I love to get my hands on a journal! There is always, always so much more to a story...Life's little details that get lost because they don't get written down. I need to journal more!!
I can see the resemblance of Ray and your mom in Sena!
I love that name - Sena!!
