Earth Day

I have several fond memories of Earth Day. This is the day when I use to take my school class on a picnic or a culminating field trip. One year we raised baby ducks and then gave them to a farmer. A couple of years we came down here to Cottonwood and picnicked along the river. One year we had about 20 students and several adults. We gathered on the greenbelt and talked about what we were going to do....I think we were going to look for little creatures, minnows in the stream, and certain plants. The kids all listened and off we went down by the river. We forgot the buckets to collect the specimens in (of which we would release before returning home). So one of the people went back to get them.....and when she came back she had a look on her face that told me something was up.....she said right where we had been sitting on the greenbelt, under the cottonwood trees...there was currently a bull snake that was about 5 feet long. Steve and I have only seen about 4 snakes here in 20 years....and wouldn't you know it, on the day I had kids here...one came around. Thank goodness they didn't see it....it could have caused a stampede! My aide Diane Snodgrass and myself always looked forward to these fieldtrips....I hope the kids still remember them.

You're so fast! I just posted that entry like 5 minutes ago and was checking out Sara's achievment day lesson when I saw you're comment already. So fast! By the way, the rolls went quickly since I made them and hardly had time to let them cool before company came over to watch the UFC fights.
