What do you do?

Well, I know Sara is going to be all right because now she has blogged about the couch....she had one of those experiences that make you want to rip out your hair out and dissolve your kids into melted jello.....but she handled it so well....Bodie was opening a package of crackers with a steak knife...and he did it without cutting himself...but then in the twilight of being 4 and not understanding what the term permanent damage means to furniture...he experimented with stabbing the leather couch and slicing the cushions. Yikes!!!! When Sara called me and began the scenario of what she was facing...I was afraid she was going to tell me that one of the boys had been seriously hurt....My mother always use to say, "People are more important than things"....and she was right, but in the heat of the moment it is hard to keep everything in perspective....but Sara did...and turned a bad incident into a real learning moment for her kids. (Ray, if you want to know all the details click on the word Sara and it will take you to her blog.)
Sara I salute you!!!! I am glad you called...my advice was more reactive...but Pop's advice was right on....it usually is...he is a very patient and wise man....I don't think he ever spanked Jess...but Katie did get a swat once! Way to go Katie! Anyway I digress....I don't think we ever regret any of the talks we had with our kids....only the talks we didn't have when we should have. Families are eternal....couches are not.
