Thanksgiving 2008

This Thanksgiving featured several levels of activity. Steve and I drove over to California. We started on Tues. afternoon and stayed the first night in Laughlin...so we had one on one time..enjoyed eating by the Colorado River and then taking off early in the morning to finish our trip. Then all of the family arrived later that evening and we had lots of fun with the excitement, wrestling, eating and playing of games. Our Thanksgiving was on Friday, due to work schedules.....I won't mention the "Black Friday" experience at Wal Mart....starting with Steve waking up at 4 a.m.....(go back to sleep..it's not time to get up)....What a fun time we had! Thanksgiving has moved from the dining room table with polished silver and crystal, to a wonderful warm picnic dinner after a day of surfing. I think it suits our family better. The little boys played at the beach and even tried to get in the water. Brock got so cold that he had to get undressed and put on Papa's dry, warm sweat shirt. Katie and Jess had wet suits, so they were in the water and on their boards. Bodie and Brock also got up on the boards...in the low surf with their dad by their side....Bodie told me, "Nana, I was soooo nervous." However, he was so excited that he had done it.

Sleeping 8 people in an 800 sq. ft. one bedroom home was fun....we just had wall to wall blow up mattresses ......and we all slept just fine....Everything was picked up during the day...and then at night out it would all come again....IT WORKED!

Saturday brought another beautiful sunny day...so we drove up to see the elephant seals....they are big and slow, but they were fun anyway. That night we went to the beach and had a fire. We took turns telling stories.....and were quite surprised at how imaginative the boys could be. Brock's story involved an alligator eating a watch....so it was great to see how the plots thickened.

The food was good. The company was great and the adventure was excellent! Then home again, home again....Jess and Sara left with their family on Sunday. Steve and I followed on Monday...but we did it the easy way and once again stayed the night in Laughlin.. . . .hussled home on Tues...and then off to R.S. to do a tamale dinner for about 50 people....whew that was a fun Thanksgiving!
