A Different Christmas - 2008

This is our spider man riding the poor dog...she puts up with it.

Sara and Jess' tree....

The entry way in Sara's house....so pretty!

Each year we give ornaments about things that have been of interest during the year, so this year for Brock and Bodie, it has been Javelina....for Wyatt it has been Spiderman....nothing is sacred. I will put an eye screw into anything! This year I made the Javelina out of clay and baked them in the oven..but they look more like elephant-bears...but the boys took one look at them and said, "Javelina!!!"

Below....Aunt Mary sends Steve Ballrich Potato Chips.....He thinks they are the best in the whole world and he shared them with the boys....they thought they were fabulous too!
Thanks Mary!!!!!

I just got back from Christmas...yes, I was abducted on Christmas Day by aliens and landed in Laughlin, Nevada.....I think they were crazy pirates.....and I met a lot of their friends in Laughlin too.

The Christmas storm that was predicted made it to Flagstaff. We went up on Christmas Eve and had a nice afternoon with the family. Katie was driving over on Christmas Day from California and suppose to drive on in to Flagstaff. Steve did not want her to be on the bad roads by herself, so we drove over to Laughlin on Christmas Day and met her there. It was a good thing we did. The poor kid had driven all day in either snow, or blowing rain.....even in the Mohave Desert.

We spent the night there and then came on over the day after. Man what a dreary, noisy setting to be in for Christmas, but there were a lot of people there by choice. We left about 11:30 a.m. the next day and as we passed through Kingman on our way to Seligman, there were 10 cars and 1 semi off the road because of black ice and that was in the high desert...no telling how bad the roads were around Flagstaff. Someone later told me that the night before 40 cars were reported to be off the road on I-40. We were glad we had taken the time for a nice breakfast before getting on the road. Katie and I had a great time talking and watching Dad drive behind us....what a weaver he is!

Katie came on back to Cottonwood. Then the kids came down and had a couple of days here followed by Katie going up and skiing with Jess and Sara....and then all too soon it was time to get on the road and go back to California. I went with her, since I had the time and it is always fun to be with her. I stayed for 6 days (4 of those days she had to work)...but I had fun with the quiet of her house and taking the buses around the 5 cities area. I love to watch people. I went out to lunch each day...even if it was with myself...had great food and saw a lot of interesting interactions.

On the 7th of January I got on the train at 7:05 a.m. and took it to Burbank, where I caught a plane and flew into Phoenix. Myrna picked me up at 3:30 p.m. (There is no fast way to get to and from Katie's). I got to have dinner with Jana's family and then the next day Jana, and Myrna drove me up to Cottonwood. They had some business up here, so it all worked out just fine......but you can see what a whirl wind it was....

So now I am home reflecting on the busy times we had....wondering, "Was that Christmas?"....and "Yes, it was!!!" at least the Christmas of 2008.....now you know why I was wondering if I had been abducted by pirates and taken away! Can life really be this crazy?
