This is my favorite way to bake a chicken....of course on the grill...and on a can filled half way with water. I have tried all kinds of liquids...and it doesn't make any difference or add any particular flavor either, which surprises me. This time I put Liquid Smoke into the water, thinking it would really add flavor...but it didn't...so don't waste any other ingredients. I rub the chicken down with seasonings once I have it on the can....do it when it is on the grill and you won't have as much clean up in the kitchen. I also put a "little shawl" of foil over the top of the chicken to protect the wings from burning. It is essential to make a little foil pan for the chicken, so the drippings do not go down into your BBQ and start a fire. (On a four burner BBQ...the two middle burners are turned to low with the outside burners being set on high....a 4 lb. chicken bakes for an hour and a half )
A friend of mine told me a story about her husband placing 3 chickens on cans, directly on the grill (without little foil pans)......The neighbor came over and said their BBQ was on fire...the husband thought it was just some fat on the flame and not a big deal, until he looked out the window and the BBQ was big time on fire....they rushed and got the hose and put it out. When they looked at it the fire had started to melt the hoses to the gas tank and they could have had a terrible explosion.....good thing the neighbor saw what was happening....they had t get a new BBQ.
Ta - daaah! Looks pretty good and it tasted even better!

Oh that looks so gooood... Even in my condition with things looking good are short moments! Things look good but they don't ways like me! I am so jealous of the weather it is so cold here and everything is still dead. I haven't seen any signs of spring. I can not wait...
Yummy. That is picture perfect. I need to use my grill more often. When we started up the grill a few weeks ago for our camp out, the kids found a plastic easter egg inside from our Easter egg hunt. That is how often we use our grill shame on me. You inspire me.
