Sunsets...

I love beginnings ....there is something so special about the beginning of a new day, a new relationship, a new grand baby, a new friend: All of the secrets and adventures that lay ahead.... All of the memories waiting to be made....Especially the start to a new day.

I use to live my life by a very strict calendar. Home life was more relaxed, but my work required many meetings, preparations for the meetings, notifications of the meetings, paper work ready for the meetings proof and documentation of the meetings... and let's not forget the signatures of all those who attended the above mentioned meetings which were done in triplicate and would be mailed to several locations. This was all above the regular duties of a teacher during the normal school hours. In order to do this I had to maintain a very well organized calendar. Those meetings took place before and after school, occasionally at lunch. The preparation took place at any free moment during the day. Each meeting required about 6 hours of preparation.....each child had to have at least one of these meetings a year on his/her behalf.

Now my calendar looks immensely different. For one thing I don't have to have it with me every second of the day, so I know where I am suppose to be and what I should be doing....that is a wonderful improvement right there. The other thing is that it has things on it like: sewing class, lunch with Spanish class friends, Kayla's wedding, trip to California for Ammon's wedding....ahhhh...much better.

Sometimes I just need to take a moment and reflect on how my life has changed. I still have some meetings....mostly associated with the volunteer work I do for my church, but not the heavily scheduled days that existed in the professional world. I have been retired since 2003....and it just gets better every year. I think the thing that I enjoy the most is having the flexibility to go and see my children & grandchildren anytime I want....or to do small things without feeling I have to hurry and get ready like....walking in the yard in the morning listening to the birds, starting the day with a little bit of handwork on a baby blanket, knowing that the day is mine to do with as I please....these are great gifts and I am very grateful for them.

One more thing I love is the ending to each day....I love sunsets, and the wind down of a busy productive day. I don't always take the time to notice the way the sun is going down...but I want to more and more. When we were in California I took this picture of Steve. He feels the same way I do about sunsets...often he will call me out on to the deck to take notice. I really need to keep a photo journal of sunsets.....I actually have quite a few....but here is one I thought was especially beautiful.
