Arroyo Grande is a charming little town in central California. It has a downtown...that is called the "Village" and has all of the feeling of that quaint title. The store fronts are historical. The people are friendly. The shop keepers welcome you.....and so do the roosters. Roosters?!? Yes, Arroyo Grande has people friendly chickens and roosters that roam the greenbelt park behind the main village street. I tried to do some research to find out how or why they are so privileged....but so far the most I have found out is that they have been there for a long time, at least long enough that no one seems to know how the came to be...and they have just accepted them as part of the ambiance of the village. There are rules though....if you want to be a free roaming chicken, you must have good behavior and be people friendly. There wasn't much elaboration on what happens to rebellious chickens who refuse to comply....but I can only guess...since there is a BBQ place nearby....I noticed the children and adults are respectful of these lovely creatures. I also noticed that the roosters seem not to mind allowing the people free range of "their" town. I wonder where the eggs are?
