4th of July

Small town America....Clarkdale, Arizona....The town does it up right for the 4th of July. They start out with a pancake breakfast, followed by a parade for children.....decorated bikes, wagons, scooters, battery operated cars....everyone is welcome....and prizes are given out for the kids efforts. Candy is tossed to the onlookers. There are homemade games to be played at booths. Ice cream that melts as fast as it is served and is delicious on a hot morning. A wonderful, energetic rendition of patriotic music played by an all volunteer band....and lots of red, white and blue. I asked our oldest grandson what he liked best about the parade....and he responded without hesitation, "The candy"....I should have known! I really thought it might have been the ride in the old firetruck...but I think they have done the high tech one's with their dad often enough that it was just fun...but didn't measure up to the CANDY!

We left the fun in Clarkdale and went home for lunch and a rest...with every intention of returning and spending the afternoon swimming in the community pool that over looks the Verde Valley with views almost to Sedona...but after 10 minutes in the pool we were sent home due to lightening and thunder!

We went to the fireworks display in Cottonwood in the evening and it was a great one! So the 4th was just the way we like it...busy and fun with little boys who always leave you wanting more and a daughter-in-law that proved once again...she is the daughter of my heart and I am so glad she is part of our family!

Now it is quiet once more at Nana's and Papa's....but we are still smiling about all the fun we had.
