I first became interested in an outdoor oven when a friend of mine who is Hopi was telling me about a wedding her family was preparing for in Polacca, Arizona(1st Mesa.) She said that they would be baking bread for the guests.....OK...I bake bread...nothing registered with me...Then after the event we were chatting.....and she said they had baked 35 loaves of bread on Saturday!!! My mind whirled...because that would take me many days to accomplish...when I asked her about it she told me how they mixed the dough up in a big #2 tub and then baked all of the loaves in her mom's oven! OK....I am more than curious now...then she explained that her family had a traditional domed outdoor wood fired oven that would bake all of this bread at one time! At the time I was amazed, envious and the desire to have an oven like that began to take root. Since that time I have seen several outdoor wood fired pizza ovens....and eaten the pizza from said ovens.....so the desire has grown.
Lynda had heard about a weekend workshop offered through NAU that taught how to make a wood fired outdoor oven....that is one of the MANY things we had yet to do.....but I won't go there....Anyway, now I am working on getting Steve excited about building one for me....since he really can do anything....but so far I have only got the project onto his someday list....That is not my favorite list....because there is a lot of competition there....like the brick work on the shop, hooking my old Home Comfort cook stove into a chimney(which would have to be constructed first), redoing the cement work by the outdoor shower.....you get the picture.....however he does so much that I am not complaining....I just have another dream now...and as soon as it becomes his idea....it will happen.....Because he REALLY CAN DO ANYTHING!!!
