Well, the oven is done...the only thing left to do is a couple of embellishments....we are letting it cure. We have had several small fires in it and will cook in it while Katie is here with us. We brought it in under budget, spending about a 3rd of the projected price estimated in the book we got our plans from. How? We used recycled materials when possible. This included fire bricks from the cement plant, some fire bricks were purchased at a garage sale, and some we bought when the elementary school was being torn down in the 1970's in Williams, Arizona. Steve also checked Home Depot for torn bags of cement that he could pick up for $1, if he got there early in the mornings (6 a.m.) . We had some supplies given to us like the rebar from a friend who still has enough to reconstruct the Statue of Liberty in his backyard. We also had some materials left over from other projects....Steve deconstructed some homemade tomato cages ( I don't know what we are going to do for tomato cages now during garden season...but we will figure it out).....all in all we will only have to bake 40 pizzas to break even...with Bodie, Brock and Wyatt...that will be in about a year or less....those boys can eat some pepperoni pizza....better known as, "Make it cheese with pepperonies Nana!"....so see it will be cost effective in the long run...and a lot of fun! Thank you Steve!!!! What a lot of work!
(For anyone who is interested, we used a book to learn about woodfired ovens and to build our oven...."The Bread Builders" by Daniel Wing and Alan Scott. It is worth the money.)

Looks great, not a bit like a monstorous eye sore, or even an outhouse. Steve did a great job, so creative using recycled materials. Go Green!
