We took the little boys back to Flagstaff yesterday...which was Friday, July 25, 2008. While we were there Jess and Sara changed the bandage on his leg. Actually, it looked very good. To me it looked a lot like a bad scalding burn...but there is less red, raw skin and more normal looking skin...so he is healing well. Both he and Sara were in good spirits and feeling very encouraged after their appointment at the Maricopa County Burn Center in Phoenix. I think both of them can see that there will be an end to all of this pain...and have noted a reduction in pain. Jess is no longer taking pain meds during the day and is walking on the leg. We feel very blessed, because it could have been so much worse. We want to thank all of you who have had us in your prayers. We have felt the effects of those prayers and are grateful for them.
A little side note added on Sunday, July 27th.....we heard from Jess exactly what happened and how he stepped into the burning stump hole....They were working at the front of the fire line just behind the bulldozers. The heavy equipment had graded the area so it was more smoothed out ...he was just walking along with the other men and stepped forward. He said it was just like walking on snow when a snowbank gives in and one foot goes down...except it was like going down in to a kiln that had been burning underground...his leg was burnt immediately and he was also pulled out immediately. His pant leg did not burn, but of course his leg did get a very bad radiant heat burn. He is really doing well. He went to Bodie's soccer game on Saturday and is trying to get back to a more normal routine.

We are so glad things are going well for them. His legs look great! Thanks for keeping in touch. After reading your wonderful blog, you inspired me to start my own (other than the one we started for Brandon). The address is http://www.keepnitsunnysideup.blogspot.com
Take care,
Shannon
